West Oahu's Dog Walking & Pet Sitting Solution

Tips and Tricks

• Having a problem with ants invading your pets food dish? Build an ant moat! Grab a cookie sheet, shallow baking tin or container large enough to hold your pet's food and water dishes. Fill the pan with about 2 inches of water and place food and water dishes inside the pan.

• Does your pet gobble down food like it's an Olympic event? Slow down your chow hound by placing a tennis ball, large (clean, of course) rock or other appropriately sized toy in the food dish and add the kibble. Your dog will have to slow down to get the food from around the object in the bowl.

Issues Surrounding Pet Waste

Pet Waste Removal Service is now available for those needing a hand with yard maintenance, disinfecting and cat box clean up. As we've expanded our service area and spent more time out and about, we've seen the need for pet waste removal service grow! Why, you ask, would I need someone to clean up after Fido and Fifi? Well, let us tell you......

o First and foremost...It's a health issue. Did you know that dog waste can contain a host of parasites including roundworms, heartworms, hook worms, tapeworms and whipworms? Each and every one of these disgusting parasites can be transmitted through dog feces! Dog waste also attracts flies which can lay eggs which hatch into maggots and cause a new generation of pests.

o The "ick" factor...many pet owners love their dogs, enjoy spending time with their pets but don't love the "end" result. Pet waste removal is a necessary part of being a good pet parent but now we're here to handle that chore for you.

o Limitations...Many diabled, elderly or ill people are unable to keep up with the constant clean up necessary to maintain their pet's environment.

o This is a biggie....TIME...have you ever felt like there just aren't enough hours in the day? We can't add more time to your day but we can free up chunk of your time by handling the pet waste removal for you.

Our goal is to educate the public on the importance of cleaning up after our pets. There are so many health and environmental aspects affilited with pet waste.

Did you know that dog waste can contain a host of parasites including roundworms, heartworms, hook worms, tapeworms and whipworms? That’s right – each and every one of these disgusting parasites can be transmitted through dog feces! How? Well, it’s simple really – when an infected dog poops and it’s left on the ground, the eggs and larvae in the feces can live for YEARS in the surrounding soil. That means that if an infected dog poops in the park and the owner doesn’t clean up the waste and your dog comes sniffing the same area weeks or even months later, it’s possible for your dog to be harmed by eggs and larvae left behind. All because someone didn’t clean up after their pet! If it will sicken your dog, just imagine what it could do to your children!

In an article published by LIPA USA …”3.6 billion pounds of dog waste per year is produced in the United States alone, equaling 800 football fields, each one foot high”. Those figures are staggering! There are about 50 million registered dogs in the U.S. That translates to 5,000 tons of waste daily.

And perhaps the scariest dog feces fact of all...A single gram of dog waste can contain 23 million fecal bacteria!

IT'S ALL ABOUT BEING PREPARED

Do you have an emergency kit prepared for your pets? You should! Just as you've (hopefully) prepared a hurricane kit for yourself and your family, you companion pets should have their own kit. Below is a list of what a basic pet emergency kit should contain. Keep in mind this list is per pet. So, if you have three dogs, multiply the quantities accordingly to ensure that you've got enough supplies for everyone!

PET KIT SUPPLIES:

• Food, water and medications for 5 days

• Veterinary Records for your pets (hint: be sure you have your pet's microchip ID written down in a safe place)

• Carriers, bedding and blankets for each pet.

• Make sure your pet has a collar with an ID tag. It's also a great idea to put ID tags on their leashes and carriers. Make sure the tage contains (at least) pet's name and two phone numbers.

• Litter Box & Litter

• Current photo of your pet with a complete physical description

Store everything in an easily accessible area of your home or garage. And remember to include a can opener in your kit if your pets are canned food eaters!

Pet's Bill of Rights

• We have the right to be full members of the family. We thrive on social interaction, praise and love.

• We have to right to stimulation. We need new games, toys, experiences and smells to be happy.

• We have the right to regular exercise. Without it, we would become hyper, sluggish or fat.

• We have the right to have fun. We enjoy acting like clowns now and then; don't expect us to be predictable all the time.

• We have the right to quality health care. Please stay friends with our vet.

• We have the right to a good diet. Like some people, we don't know what's best for us. We depend on you.

• We have the right not to be rejected because of YOUR expectations that we'd be something that we're not.

• We have the right to receive proper training.

• We have the right to guidance and correction based on compassion and understanding, rather than abuse.

• We have the right to live with dignity...and to die with dignity when the time comes.
